I have been wanting to visit Leggero for sometime, they had a little stand at the Allergy Show in Spitalfields over the Summer where I sampled their focaccia...and it was amazing, didn't even tasted gluten free.
For those that don’t know..Leggero is unique in the fact that it’s a 100% gluten free Italian restaurant. Those coeliacs among us will know how amazing this is, it felt novelty being able to have absolutely anything on the menu! And what a menu it is.
To start, the menu has a range of small plates and starters, the bread looked amazing but I opted for some spinach and ricotta balls ‘Gnudi’ having already had a little taste of the foccacia. Leggero prides itself on it’s fresh ingredients and rightly so! The spinach balls were fresh, delicious and unlike any other gluten free italian food I have tried before (in a good way!).
For main there is also a lot of choice (obviously, it’s all gluten free!). I decided on the handmade "Sorghum Pasta" with asparagus, avocado cream, pecorino cheese and egg. They make all the pasta each morning, so again it tasted fresh and amazing. You can have the dish with or without a raw egg (which cooks on the warm pasta) I had the egg and it was a tasty twist.
There’s TIRAMISU on the menu too (no pic, we ate it too quickly), which is a must have even if you’re absolutely stuffed. It’s sumptuous and delicious, but also quite heavy (rightly so) so maybe get one to share? Plus they make them in advance, so you get it brought out very quickly.
The service was excellent, the wine was tasty and it was busy, so I would recommend booking if you want go down!
