How to Order the BEST Takeaway
Have you spotted something amazing online or on Instagram, traipsed to that place, ordered from that place only to find they have a shared fryer, read this guide to avoid wasting your time.
Don’t just use the dietary filter on apps like Deliveroo or Uber Eats and assume everything “gluten free is safe”. Franco Manca is always the top, never trust Franco Manca – they prep everything in a floury surface and are generally THE worst:
Your first step is always call the restaurant, don’t like phone calls? Tough, don’t order or pre plan and email them, but it can take a long time to hear back, so this one takes more prepping.
What food is it you would like? Is it a pizza? Ok, so are the gluten free pizzas cooked on a tray, prepped separately and sliced with a separate slicer, or are they cooked in a separate oven. Is the answer no or do they not know or not want to answer questions – do not order
Is it chips? Is there other fried food on the menu, is it fried separately? Are they not sure? Do no order.
Is it a burger? Ok, you have asked about the chips, now where do they cook the meat, is it on the same surface as the bread. Do they waiver? Do not order. I saw a burger place serving a gluten free bun but they also serve a stout marinated burger cooked next to the regular ones – don’t even bother calling.
Is it a sandwich, wrap or bagel? Do they have a separate toaster, or can they toast yours under the grill (always on foil) or can they toast in a baking parchment or toastie bag. Are they going to wipe the surfaces before they prep yours? Do they waiver? Do they not know or don’t want to ask. Do not order.
Is it pasta? Do they cook the gluten free pasta in the same water and the regular pasta? Do they waiver? Do not order.
Is it noodles? Do they cook your noodles in with the wheat ones? Are they not sure… Do not order.
Is it a cake? Is the cake stored next to gluten cakes, are they handled using the same utensils or sliced on the same boards?
Is it a milkshake? Do they use oat milk? Is the oat milk gluten free?
Is it a waffle? Do they have a separate waffle maker or ensure a complete clean down in between each order?
When asked about a gluten free menu do they mention vegan? Do not order. Have they asked you about potatoes or cheese. Do not order.
If you’ve ordered before should you just order using a delivery service – NO. Call every single time and make sure they’ve marked your order as gluten free but REALLY gluten free.
No kitchen will guarantee 100% CC free, unless they are 100% gluten free, this can be fine fine, IF they are taking all the steps to ensure it’s as safe as can be. Were they happy to answer your questions? Now, this is then your decision to make, should you order? It’s up to you, trust your gut.
