Gluten Free Main Meals at Café Rouge
There is a large selection of gluten free main meals at French restaurant - Cafe Rouge. A selection of responsibly sourced seafood, a vegan Moroccan tagine (which is delish), some chicken dishes as well as the possibility of getting a gluten free bun for a burger!
For those that don’t know...Café Rouge have over 75 French bistro restaurants across the UK, serving French classics from croque monsieur to steaks and mussels in a retro Parisian style.
I had a selection of three main meals to try and started with the Vegan Morrocon Tagine, which is made with toasted courgette, carrots, butternut squash, baby spinach and chickpeas with toasted almonds, I traded the cous cous for some tasty gluten free bread. The dish was flavoursome and wholesome and perfect for those coeliacs that are veggie or vegan.
Next I tried the Poulet Breton, roast chicken suprême with mushrooms, courgettes, leeks and herb & wine sauce with herb mash. This has got to be my favourite dish the chicken was moist, the mash was amazing and there’s ample sauce (my favourite).
Lastly I tried the chicken burger (look at my amazing header pic!) with gluten free bun, unfortunately the fries aren’t cooked in a separate fryer, so not gluten free but you can switch for a side salad. I added some tasty avocado and this took it to the next level. The bun was fluffy and nice AND stayed together - so many gluten free buns crumble but this managed to hold it’s form.
The thing that really stood out to me was the service, the staff seemed knowledgeable about gluten free and cross contamination and really helped to make me feel secure in eating there.
I ate at the Hays Galleria restaurant, which is right by the river, and highly recommend sitting outside there. It was lovely!
